In a place where frost covers the crops, keeping food on the table is a distant dream. There, a young boy dreams of breaking the cycle of poverty and becoming a source of inspiration for his villagers. His name is A Khanh.
“Isn’t it a miracle that we met?
A gentle smile can ease the other’s pain”
That chorus of the song “Phép màu” (Miracle) was performed by A Khanh, a boy from one of Vietnam’s 74 poorest districts – Kon Plong District in Kon Tum Province. His performance opened the special reunion of Be Better, themed “Success and Virtue”. It was a gathering of four generations of students who have received the “Change the Future” scholarship from 2022 to 2025. The event was held last weekend at Vo Van Kiet High School in Vung Liem District, Vinh Long Province.
A Khanh has been supported by the Be Better Foundation since 2023 among nearly 100 students who have received a long-term scholarship since the foundation’s establishment in 2022. His family consists of seven members: his parents and five children. His hometown is a poor land, where only rice, cassava, and pepper can be grown as frost makes it impossible to cultivate other crops. Therefore, having sustenance and covering is a challenge. Nevertheless, A Khanh tried hard and was accepted into the Department of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering at the Central College of Transport V.
His dream is simple yet profound, and Be Better wants to help him shape a brighter future.
“I want my family to escape poverty and have enough food and clothes, and all of my siblings to go to school. As the people in my village have not had proper education, their thinking is still backward. They toiled for years but still live a hard life. I don’t want to live that same life. I constantly remind myself that I must strive for my own life and inspire others in my village.”
Be Better aims to support underprivileged students who are excellent in studies with strong determination to rise above challenges. We want to give them opportunities to change their future, then change their family’s fate. Additionally, our long-term goal is to foster a virtuous generation willing to share and support each other. A Khanh is such an exemplary face in this journey.
“Inside out”, our slogan, reminds us that spreading compassion and giving opportunities can create real change.
We believe that our compassion will connect with others. And compassion will light up dreams, making our lives better.
We hope to receive further assistance from compassionate hearts so that this journey of love can continue to be spread and create change for not just one but many generations.
