MENTORSHIP – THE PASSION OF BE BETTER

With the goal of giving away accurate, practical and useful knowledge; Be Better’s focus is to:

  • Helping the children and students know how to think independently, self-orient their future, self-select the most appropriate profession or direction for their circumstances, abilities, and passions.
  • Sharing practical experiences and lessons to help children and students become more aware of what they need to prepare for to achieve success in their work and life in the future.
  • Sharing practical experiences and lessons to help children and students orient their self-worth to live a better, useful and happier life.
  • Sharing examples of overcoming difficulties and inspiring stories to help them see more positively, have more motivation to strive to realize their own dreams.
The giver loses ten years, the receiver only loses an hour.

Mentorship is not just about giving away material things. We also give away our spiritual values, knowledge, and the most precious experiences we have. The benefits of the program for students are:

  • Students have a healthy and beneficial playground to apply knowledge, practice skills, and develop thinking in the “Intellectual Person” competition.
  • Students from disadvantaged backgrounds have the opportunity to participate in the “Intellectual Person” competition to challenge themselves, apply their skills and knowledge, and receive well-deserved prizes that can help them to overcome the challenges they face in their studies and lives.
  • Students are helped to orient their future, learn how to think correctly and positively to face the challenges and difficulties in life.
  • Students receive assessments and reflections on many aspects of life from professionals and experts. This helps them to overcome the difficulties of choosing a major and career, so that they can make the most suitable decisions for the future.
  • Students will have all their questions about future orientation and spiritual life answered.

HOW IS THE MENTORSHIP PRGRAM ORGANIZED?

To deliver the best message to the people who need it most, Mentorship is divided into two groups of programs: (1) Mentorship for students who receive the “Change the Future” scholarship, and (2) Mentorship for high school and junior high school students.

1. Mentorship for students who receive the "Change the Future" scholarship

All of them are pupils/students from disadvantaged backgrounds who have been comprehensively evaluated on 5 criteria: circumstances, abilities, motivation, attitude, and qualities to be awarded the “Change the Future” scholarship.

In addition to funding tuition for students to continue going to school, the Be Better Foundation organizes a mentorship program to accompany them on their journey to build a foundation and develop themselves.

Mentorship will be organized in the form of small seminars, conversations, sharing knowledge, skills, and experience to apply for jobs, solve difficulties in life.

Above all, this mentorship program also helps the Be Better Foundation understand the lives and personal development journeys of the students, and helps to strengthen the friendships of students of the same circumstances.

2. Mentorship for high school and junior high school students

Unlike the Mentorship program for students who receive the “Change the Future” scholarship, for this group of students, the Be Better Foundation wants to spread it more widely, so that Mentorship is truly a meaningful program for the participating students.

Specifically,

Target audience: all students from grade 9 to 12 (the program is not mandatory, students can register voluntarily)

Program content

  • Duration: The program will last approximately 4 hours, divided into 3 parts, each lasting 90 minutes, with a 10-minute break between each part.
  • Organizational form: Parallel to the competition called “The Intellectual”.
  • The Intellectual is a competition created and organized by the Be Better Foundation. The competition consists of 2 parts corresponding to 2 question formats: individual debate and team debate.
    • Individual debate: consists of 2-3 questions, each question for 2 students who register to compete, each student has 2 minutes to present their part of the competition. Note: Of the 2 students, one will participate in the competition first, the remaining student will move to a closed room, wearing headphones to keep the question and answer of the first student confidential.
    • Team debate: consists of 3-4 questions, each question for 2 teams competing with each other, each team consisting of 3 students. Before announcing the question, the organizing committee will give 6 students who register to compete. To ensure fairness, 6 students will randomly draw lots to choose teams and draw lots to receive their team’s mission: agree or disagree, option A or option B, etc. After the team formation is completed and the teams have received their missions, the organizing committee will read the question. These are open-ended questions with no right or wrong answers, but the questions will have two sides of the issue or two opposing answers. Then, each team has 2 minutes to discuss in a group. At the end of two minutes, the two teams will send representatives to present their arguments and reasoning to defend their point of view. The presentation content of the teams must ensure coherence, logic, and the competitive spirit of the members must be standard and polite.
  • Grading: Because all the questions in the program are open-ended, with no right or wrong answers, the judges will use a variety of criteria to grade, such as: level of logic, clarity, persuasiveness, presentation style, etc. The jury consists of: speakers participating in the Be Better Foundation and representatives of teachers from schools. The scores of each individual or team are graded based on specific criteria and score scales, and are averaged from the scores of the judges to rank the prizes.
  • At the end of each question, the speaker will share knowledge and experiences related to the content of the question. This will help students to have a more comprehensive perspective, and at the same time, help them to have a deeper understanding of an issue in life.
  • After completing all the questions, students will come to the “Question and Answer with the Speaker” session, which will address the difficulties and obstacles they face in their studies, in life, and in the process of orienting their future.
  • The program will end with the award ceremony of the “The Intellectual” competition, which includes 3 prizes for each question: 1 first prize, 1 second prize, and 1 consolation prize (if any). The total value of the prizes is estimated to be up to 15 million VND.

The cost of organizing the program includes logistics costs and prize costs, estimated to be between 20 and 25 million VND. In order to support schools in bringing the program with practical significance to the future generation, Be Better Foundation will sponsor the entire organizing cost. "The program has very cute and friendly uncles, aunts, and they have very cool thinking. Second, the Be Better Foundation had very painful and difficult questions to answer, and I think many friends also need answers, and after each part, there were aunts who answered. Third, I saw that the crew had prepared very carefully the food and drinks for us during the break."

"I think the message is very good, the lessons are very practical, and it has helped me to identify what I need to do. Because I myself am also confused and wandering in choosing a combination or a profession. It helps me have a more objective view in choosing the subjects I like and the subjects I am good at because when I am good at it, then I will like that subject. The way the speakers shared is very practical and easy to understand."
