A DREAM KINDLED BESIDE THE FIRE OF A BLACKSMITH’S FORGE…

“There were days when we didn’t even have a single grain of rice to eat, and we had to gather every bit of loose change in the house just to buy rice… I thought I would never be able to attend university because my family was struggling so much.”

When Vy began to think about giving up on her studies, her father told her that he would do everything he could to help her keep moving forward.

Her handwritten words about her father and her dream of continuing her education deeply moved us. Be Better reached out to meet her, listen to her story, and understand her circumstances as we considered her for a scholarship for the 2026-2027 academic year.

We hoped the scholarship would help her continue pursuing her dream, rather than having to give it up because of financial hardship.

Vy was born and raised in her father’s loving care, spending her childhood alongside his blacksmith’s forge. The sound of the hammer, the glow of the fire, and her father’s calloused hands became familiar parts of her childhood.

Over time, fewer people came to the forge for handmade tools, and the work became increasingly scarce. Her father’s health also began to decline, making life more difficult for the two of them.

“My father is like a flame, lighting the way for my dreams.” Vy proudly wrote about her father.

“Everyone is born with a destiny of their own, one they cannot choose. But we can choose to change it.”

Looking toward the future, Vy dreams of one day wearing a white coat and becoming a doctor, caring for and helping others.

For Vy, success alone is not enough. She also hopes to become a good and compassionate person through the profession she chooses.

“Success should always go hand in hand with integrity. In my heart, I always want to strive for what is good and never hurt anyone.”

After reading her letter, meeting Vy and her dad, and listening to her story, Be Better came to understand Vy’s determination and strong desire to change her circumstances. We are honored to support Vy through “Change the Future” Scholarship. 

The scholarship is not only about easing her family’s financial burden. It is also about standing alongside Vy, giving her the opportunity to focus on her studies and pursue a different future.

Today, Vy has taken another step toward her dream. She is studying Traditional Medicine at Mekong International Intermediate School.

“I am truly grateful that along my journey, I have received love and support from people who had never even known me, yet were still willing to help me.”
