“I can’t be certain what I’ll become one day… but there is one promise I’ve always made to myself — that I will be a good person.”
These words, simple yet filled with quiet strength, belong to Nha An — a young woman whose spirit speaks louder than her circumstances. Be Better Foundation hopes to continue connecting compassionate hearts to walk alongside her, nurturing the dreams she carries.
At 18, after receiving a full scholarship from Be Better Foundation in August 2024, Nha An packed her modest belongings and her even bigger dreams, and set off for Saigon to begin her university life. She is now a second-year student at Van Hien University, majoring in Oriental Studies with a focus on the Korean language.
Nha An grew up in a family marked by years of hardship. Prolonged difficulties left deep imprints — not only on her, but on every member of her household. Yet it was precisely this environment that shaped her into someone who learned, early on, to stand on her own two feet and hold tightly to the belief that education could be her way forward.
During her years at Tan Quoi High School in Vinh Long, she cycled more than 13 kilometers to school every single day. Her dedication and unwavering drive moved her teachers deeply, earning her tuition support throughout all three years of high school. That journey continued when Be Better Foundation stood beside her through the “Change the Future” Scholarship, beginning in the 2024–2025 academic year — opening the door to higher education.
If Nha An at 16 or 17 was a girl who studied with quiet determination, clinging to the hope of breaking free from cycles of poverty, then Nha An at 20 is someone who has grown — not just in years, but in her way of thinking and acting. Despite a demanding schedule, she takes on part-time work to independently cover her living expenses in the city.
And even now, with so much still on her shoulders, Nha An gives freely. She actively participates in volunteer activities organized by her faculty and university — visiting children at shelters, supporting students during exam season, helping transport relief supplies during floods, and joining Be Better Foundation’s Mentorship trips as a regular companion. In November 2025, when she returned to Tan Quoi High School as a volunteer, she stepped onto the stage and shared her own story — not for recognition, but to reignite belief in the younger students still finding their way. She showed them what knowledge and kindness can build.
Be Better Foundation has always believed: when adversity fails to break a person, it instead forges someone stronger. Nha An is living proof. She has grown steady enough to live the life she envisions — step by step caring for her mother, becoming a source of strength for her younger brother and her father, and becoming a light in her own story. And whenever the chance arises to give something back, she never hesitates.
The road ahead for Nha An is still long. But along the way, she knows she is not alone — and she is deeply grateful for every kind heart that has believed in her and helped her keep going.
