Family situation

Ngoc Nhu’s parents divorced when she was just a little child. Since then, her father has completely disappeared from her life – no support, no concern, no presence. While her mother remarried and had another daughter (now 8 years old), Ngoc Nhu remained with her twin sister, Ngoc Y. Since they were just 3 months old, the two have been in the care of their grandmother, who has taken on the role of both father and mother, raised and guided them single-handedly. With age catching up, her grandmother grows weaker by the day, and the heart disease she has battled for years has become more serious. But life didn’t stop testing them there. A few years ago, misfortune hit once more. Ngoc Nhu’s stepfather, while working as a mason, suffered a terrible fall that broke both his arm and leg. From that moment on, every financial burden has fallen entirely on her mother’s shoulders. To support the whole family, she has no choice but to leave home and make a living in Saigon. Despite all her tireless efforts, she is only able to send VND 1,000,000 each month for her mother and her two daughters to get by. That support brings some relief, but the three of them still live in constant shortage and uncertainty.

Yet, this hardship has never once shattered Ngoc Nhu’s dreams. Since 2024, she has proudly been a Nursing student at Cuu Long University. The Be Better Foundation firmly believes that these four years of university will shape a new version of her – more courageous, more determined, and more resilient than ever.
