Van’s little house is filled with unspoken worries. Both of his parents are past their prime working years. His father is 65; his mother suffers from various age-related illnesses such as high blood pressure, joint problems, and diabetes. The family’s financial burden rests almost on his fifth sister, even though she has her own family with other worries.
Family is meant to be a place of love, but not all families are places where love is shared. Conflicts between his parents and the generation gap made it impossible for Van to express his feelings. That unspoken sadness, compounded by the trauma of school bullying, pushed him into depression. Those were the days when the world of a schoolboy remained silent.
Nevertheless, the most remarkable thing was not a miracle from the outside but the inner strength that rose from the deepest pain. Van faced, wrestled with, and overcame his depression on his own. In doing so, he discovered a precious lesson that many adults are still searching for: the ability to truly listen to himself.
His journey through depression has given him profound empathy and remarkable mental strength. With a passion and talent for cooking, Van is now pursuing a degree in Restaurant Management and Gastronomy, aspiring to become a skilled chef.
Be Better Foundation believes that with such inner strength, if given just a spark of hope, he can reach for his dreams, change his current circumstances, and continue to spread positivity to those around him.
