Dinh Hong Khanh is a member of an ethnic minority from Ngoc Tem commune, Kon Plong district, Kon Tum province, one of the poorest provinces in Vietnam. As a result, the lives of the people here are still very difficult, lacking food and clothing. Among the families with the most difficult circumstances here, Hong Khanh ‘s family is classified as near-poor in the commune.
The life of Dinh Hong Khanh’s family depends on the unstable income of growing cassava. There are times when the family has no income for several months. She has three older sisters, but all three got married early and are also living in very difficult circumstances. As a result, Hong Khanh cannot rely on her sisters for her education and can only rely on the help of her grandfather and family to maintain her studies.
Aware of her own circumstances and the fate of her three sisters, Hong Khanh has developed a very strong determination to escape poverty. From wanting to become a tour guide because she saw the potential for tourism development in the region, to enlisting in the army, then learning Korean to work abroad, to find a brighter future for herself.
Currently, Dinh Hong Khanh has successfully become a student in the Economics Law program at the University of Da Nang – Kon Tum campus. With the support of donors and the Be Better Foundation, Hong Khanh hopes to be even more confident in achieving her dreams, which are to change her own future and return to help her hometown.
