Bao Ngoc’s family consists of five members: her mother, younger brother, maternal grandparents, and her. Her parents divorced when she was in 12th grade. Since then, her mother has become the primary breadwinner. Despite suffering from diabetes, she is still selling lottery tickets, with a monthly income of approximately VND 3-4 million (about USD 110-150) to feed her two kids.
Bao Ngoc’s younger brother was born with hydrocephalus. Fortunately, his condition gradually improved, and currently, he is leading a normal life like other kids. It’s such a miracle for her family.
Currently, the entire family is residing at her maternal grandparents’. Her maternal grandparents are over 60 years old; her granny even has a heart problem. Nevertheless, they still work as a freelance duck butcher at the market to earn extra income.
Bao Ngoc is a remarkably resilient and determined girl. Being fully aware of her family’s difficult circumstances, she has worked tirelessly to continue her education. She has been an outstanding student for 12 consecutive years, and even received a consolation prize in the provincial practical Biology competition. Since her parents’ divorce, she has taken full responsibility for her education and future direction, making all decisions on her own. As early as high school, Ngoc took on various part-time jobs and diligently saved money to cover her educational expenses, demonstrating her strong will and decisiveness.
