Family situation

Nhan’s family is classified as a “household in near poverty”. When Nhan just became a 5th-grade student, his father passed away due to his lung and spinal cord diseases after years of working in the industrial park. Nhan’s mother is the main provider for him and his younger sister. Every morning, Nhan’s mother sells coconut cakes until the afternoon. After that, she goes home and prepare cakes for the next day. Due to their family’s circumstances, her mother only earns enough to cover the family’s living expenses. Without assistance from their relatives, Nhan and his younger sister would not be able to go to school.

Because of his poor health, Nhan is usually sick, thus unable to help his mother a lot. Despite the difficulties, Nhan is determined to study further to secure a good job to support his mother and younger sister.
