Nguyen Gia Han grew up in a stressful and dysfunctional family. She was abandoned by her father at the age of five. Afterwards, her mother remarried and had one more child, who is four years old now. She had lived with her maternal grandparents since a young age; however, they were unable to raise her, so she moved in with her mother and stepfather.
Her stepfather is a farmer and the sole breadwinner, while her mother, due to poor health and having to care for a young child, can only manage household chores. In recent years, the family’s orange farming has failed, and prices have plummeted, leaving them with a heavy debt burden. Financial difficulties have created tensions and conflicts within her family. She said that she had suffered years of mental issues and severe anxiety, with no one to confide in but herself through writing, imagining, and drawing.
Gia Han is a multi-talented girl with great inner strength. Though her overall academic performance is fairly good, she excels in Biology and harbors a deep passion for Traditional Medicine. She also possesses various other talents, such as writing stories and painting (she has even sold four of her artworks, earning VND 2 million), and has been independently researching medicinal herbs since childhood. These hobbies are not only her sources of joy but also her personal means of coping with life’s hardships, offering herself comfort and encouragement.
With her passion for Traditional Medicine, Han dreams of helping others and contributing to the community and society. Be Better Foundation believes that although her soul has endured many scars, her kind heart and steadfast belief in goodness will empower her to redraw her dream life.
