Thao Han’s greatest blessing may be that she still has both parents by her side – a source of happiness amid the constant struggles to make ends meet. Her family lives on her maternal grandparents’ land, and their current house was built with borrowed money. Adding to their difficulties, both of her parents lack steady employment. Han’s father works as a hired musician, earning around 500,000 VND for a four-hour performance and, on fortunate occasions, up to 700,000–800,000 VND per show. However, these gigs are rare, often occurring only once a month, if at all. Han’s mother also has no permanent job; while she cares for the family full-time, she occasionally sings at local events, bringing in around 300,000–500,000 VND when she is called to perform.
Aware of her family’s circumstances from a young age and inheriting an artistic talent from her parents, Thao Han has been supporting her family by singing and working part-time when not in school. Despite life’s hardships, her dreams have remained intact. In 2024, Thao Han’s dedication bore fruit as she achieved her goal of becoming a new student in the Traditional Vietnamese Opera (Cai Luong) program at the Can Tho College of Culture and Arts. This accomplishment reflects not only her talent but her unyielding determination to pursue her passion and help her family.
