He had hoped to find emotional support in his father, but ever since his father remarried, he no longer cared for or provided for Hai, including his education. His father left him in the care of his grandmother, who is now over 70 years old. Despite her declining health and inability to work, she loves Van Hai dearly. She even goes to Chau Doc to work in a bakery to earn money for his education

Since then, Linh has received the care and upbringing of her grandmother. Her grandmother supports her by making and selling cakes, earning an unstable income. To make ends meet, her grandmother often stayed up late, leading to a decline in her health.

Since his father's death, everything in the family has fallen on the shoulders of his mother, who works as a street vendor in the mornings and sells coconut cakes in the afternoons to earn extra income.
