Yen Nhi’s family fell apart five years ago when her mother walked away, leaving her and her father behind. Since then, her mother has been almost entirely out of contact. Nhi’s father, an orphan himself, lost both parents by the age of six and was fortunate to be taken in by a kind-hearted foster family. Today, Nhi and her father live with her grandmother, relying on her home as they have no land or property of their own. However, even this home is temporary: when her grandmother passes away, they will have to find another place to live. For over a decade, Nhi’s father has worked tirelessly as a construction laborer, earning a meager income of around 9 million VND per month, and only during months of good fortune. This income is stretched thin to support their family, care for his elderly foster mother, and ensure Nhi can continue her education. Yet, the future remains precarious. Her father suffers from bone and joint issues, raising fears of how much longer he can endure such physically demanding work. Meanwhile, her grandmother’s health is rapidly declining, and her time with them is uncertain. In this fragile and uncertain situation, Yen Nhi’s dream of continuing her education grows dimmer by the day. When survival itself is a daily struggle, the thought of pursuing an education feels like a luxury far beyond reach. Yet, her determination remains quietly steadfast, even in the face of these overwhelming odds.
Through relentless effort and a passion that has burned within her for years, Yen Nhi achieved a remarkable milestone in 2024, by becoming a freshman in the Veterinary Medicine program at Vinh Long University of Technology and Education. The Be Better Foundation firmly believes that, by pursuing the career she has long dreamed of, Yen Nhi will push herself even harder to transform not only her own life but also the future of her family. With her unwavering dedication, she is poised to fulfill her promise to contribute positively to society and create a brighter tomorrow.
