Despite his old age, Ngoc Tuyen’s father continues to work tirelessly selling ice from morning until late at night, with an average income of about 80,000 VND (around $3.40) per day. On lucky days, he might earn up to 130,000 VND ($5.60). Ngoc Tuyen’s mother suffers from joint and blood pressure issues, which prevent her from doing heavy labor, so she stays at home managing the household. Ngoc Tuyen has an older brother who is currently studying Dentistry at Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy, and she also has a younger sibling. Her parents are doing their best to ensure all three children can continue their education. However, Ngoc Tuyen is fully aware of the family’s financial difficulties and knows that her father alone cannot shoulder the burden of supporting three children through school. To help ease the family’s financial strain, outside of school hours, Ngoc Tuyen sells rice paper and drinks, earning about 10,000–15,000 VND ($0.40–$0.60) per hour, contributing what she can to support household expenses.
Following in her brother’s footsteps, Ngoc Tuyen’s biggest dream is to pursue a career in Nursing. Now, thanks to the opportunity provided by the “Change Your Future” scholarship, she is working hard every day to make her dream a reality.
With her perseverance and tireless efforts, in 2024, Ngoc Tuyen successfully became a Nursing student at Can Tho Medical College. Living her dream and studying in the field she has always aspired to, the Be Better Foundation believes that one day, Ngoc Tuyen will become a compassionate, professional nurse—both talented and kind-hearted.
