Huynh Nhu may have both parents by her side, but her so-called “luck” has come at the cost of immense hardship.
Her father, though only in his late 30s, endures constant physical pain due to a tumor in his thigh. Despite this, he toils away as a construction worker in Binh Duong to provide for the family. On good months, when work is steady, he earns around 8-9 million VND, but when there are no projects, he can go an entire month without income.
Huynh Nhu’s mother faces even greater health challenges. Now in her 40s, she suffers from kidney stones and chronic spinal pain, which worsens with weather changes. Doctors have advised her against lifting anything over 5kg, yet for the sake of survival, she continues working alongside her husband as a construction helper. Years of physically demanding labor have only deteriorated her health.
Nhu’s younger brother, born in 2009, suffered a seizure as a child, leaving him with impaired vision. This disability led him to drop out of school in the fifth grade. Currently, he is learning graphic design online under the guidance of a relative, hoping to eventually pursue advanced training in Long An when he gains more experience.
Even in normal circumstances, the family struggles to afford daily necessities for four people. But lately, with no available construction work, both parents have been unemployed for months, surviving on just 2-3 million VND per month. Given their financial situation, supporting Huynh Nhu’s continued education would be nearly impossible without external assistance.
Yet, against all odds, in 2024, Huynh Nhu successfully enrolled in Can Tho University, majoring in Crop Science. This marks the first step toward realizing her dreams. With unwavering determination, she is set to push forward—not just for herself, but for her family and the generous benefactors who believe in her potential.
