Y Luong belongs to an ethnic minority community residing in Mang Canh commune, Kon Plong district, one of Vietnam’s poorest districts, within Kon Tum. The lives of the local people here are full of difficulties as they lack access to basic necessities.
As both of Y Luong’s parents are farmers, her 5-member family has to rely on single-crop farming and cassava cultivation. Unfortunately, Luong parents’ income is not stable, and they are unable to ensure the whole family has nutritious meals every day. Y Luong has a brother who is in university and a sister who is a 1st-grade student. With the current income, it is nearly impossible for her parents to cover the living expenses while supporting the 3 children’s studies. Without support, Y Luong might have to stop her studiesing at school and work with her parents in the fields, abandoning her dream of becoming a singer.
