Bao Ngan’s family is currently facing extremely difficult circumstances. Her father has kidney stones and had to undergo surgery on both kidneys. Her mother, unfortunately, suffers from uterine fibroids. During the time her parents were ill, all the savings in the household were used for their medical treatment. The entire family had to make tremendous efforts to raise enough money for her parents’ surgeries. Fortunately, both her father and mother underwent successful surgeries, but after the operations, they were unable to work as they did before and couldn’t engage in strenuous activities.
The challenges compounded as all the family’s expenses could only rely on the limited income her father earned from casual labor. Her mother tried to contribute to the family income but her health didn’t allow her to do much, so she could only take on some outsourced work to earn extra income. Every day, whenever she has free time, Bao Ngan helps her mother to earn an additional 20-30,000 VND. Despite her family’s best efforts, their total income is insufficient to cover their daily expenses, let alone to support Ngan’s further education.
Bao Ngan is an excellent student who won the encouragement prize in the Provincial Excellent Students contest in Chemistry and is in the top three best students of her grade. Therefore, Ngan is a source of immense pride for her family.
